Recommendations for Generational Transition

Transitioning leadership from the baby boom generation to the generations that follow continues to be an important issue the nonprofit sector needs to address. The Building Movement Project, established at the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Harvard University, has released a report that explores how 27 social change leaders view their contributions and their future roles. Here are four of the key recommendations presented in, What’s Next? Baby Boom-Age Leaders in Social Change Nonprofits:
1) Create collective resources and options for the baby boom generation’s leadership and life transition planning

2) Identify and develop opportunities for baby boom generations to continue their contributions

3) Promote cross-generational dialogue and learning to facilitate information transfer and share experience

4) Explore different models of organizational leadership that promote mutual learning and shared leadership

Find out about the suggested action steps for each recommendation from the full report, available at the Building Movement Project web site.
