In regards to the last two strategies-- I think Ashoka, through their Citizen Base Initiative, has an innovative approach. They partner with foundations to sponsor idea competitions among nonprofits for creative ideas to become less dependent on grants/foundations and more interconnected to the community they serve. The award money is money to hire a new staff member to implement the idea. I would suspect the model would be appealing to foundations that want to help their grantees become more sustainable/able to stand on their own two feet.
